My 5 Year Plan/Goal

So over the next 5 years I think I want to accomplish a few things. Between moving from one state to another and finally setting up my new life with my wife and kids. Here is what I came up with.

  1. I want to have 2 fully paid off vehicles. 1 of which will be paid off in a month so half of that is already done.
  2. I want to have close to no debt or no debt at all.
    • This one might be a struggle to do in the beginning, but over time as we get better at budgeting and setting some small financial goals, it will be obtained.
    • This will also raise both, mine and my wife’s credit scores in the process.
    • I think this one might be the hardest thing to do out of all of these things considering we are constantly having to use our credit cards to keep ourselves afloat right now
  3. Investing more money into my own investment account as well as starting and growing an investment account for each of my 2 kids and watching all 3 accounts grow in the process.
    • Doing this will help me use as a learning lesson later about investing for the boys as they get older.
    • Of course I will be investing into mine until I retire and I will invest into the custodial accounts until they turn 18.
      • Once they each turn 18 I will give them full access to the accounts to do with as they please
      • I want to buy them stocks every year for their birthdays
        • I decided that every year I will take note what they have been excited about and buy stocks for them on their birthdays and as the years go by their portfolios will diversify
        • However, I want to buy the same stocks every year as well as new ones
          • That being said, I have decided that it will be 2 new stocks every year unless of course their interests don’t change over the last year then I will just buy the same stock(s) twice on the next birthday
            • ie- bought Disney and Google last year and it has not changed so this year I will buy those stocks again twice and end up with 3 stocks in each
  4. I want to do a small bit of saving every week on top of all of this.
    • I am thinking either $20 or $30 per week
    • Where I can just have it set up to automatically transfer the money into a savings account weekly so I don’t have to worry about it
      • I will learn to live with the lesser money. Albeit not a very noticeable amount on a weekly basis.
    • Watching the money slowly go up will be a nice boost and it will start an emergency fund that will slowly and slowly grow over time into a decent sized fund

Listing all of these things is just nice to put down on “paper” and get the ideas out there.
